Saissac and his treasure
Saissac is a medieval village perched at 467m above sea level. Facing the Pyrenees, its Cathar castle contains a treasure.
Saissac, is the ideal place to go to explore the region Occitania and of the most beautiful places of interest of the Aude.
Village, of 91000 inhabitants, situated on a natural balcony which dominates the gorge of Vernassonne and also all the audoise plain of Carcassonne to Castelnaudary (plain of Lauragais).
Saissac it’s its Cathar castle, its tower of the Old Jobs, its church, its shops ….
Saissac and its riches
You can admire his magnificent cathar castle and discover the secrets of his treasure, to walk down his little streets with his houses with corbelled construction which will bathe you in a medieval atmosphere paradoxically quiet and restful, to go into raptures in front of its exceptional point of view over the valley of Aude and if the chance smiles to you, you can see the chain of Pyrenees.
Walking in the alleys of Saissac, you will discover its towers, its half-timbered houses, the church, the school (old hotel of a wealthy bourgeois) as well as his washing places and other fountains. Don’t forget to cross by La Porte d’Autan with its three blazons. You will dip back for a moment, in the time of Bertrand de Saissac, during the crusade against Inhabitant of Albi. The blazon of Saissac: of azure in a tower of silver built by sand.
