Lastours
Lastours comprises four castles: Cabaret, Tour Régine, Surdespine, and Quertinheux. Built atop steep hills, they once formed a strategic defensive complex. Following the marked trail, you will discover these stone citadels that seem to defy the void, as well as the remains of a fortified settlement and an early church.
These royal fortresses played a key role in the history of Catharism. A stronghold of resistance during the Albigensian Crusade, Lastours still bears witness to this tumultuous past. Between ruins and breathtaking panoramas, a visit is a true journey through the centuries.
Exploring the castles begins with a path that winds its way up the hillside. The climb, accessible to the whole family, offers superb views of the valley and the surrounding mountains. On site, three exhibitions immerse you in the secrets of this exceptional location: archaeology, geology, botany, zoology, and even the culture of the troubadours!
And to top it all off, don't miss the Belvedere, an ideal spot to admire the entire site and take some memorable photos.
Whether you're a history buff or simply enjoy a pleasant walk, the Lastours Castles will enchant you. A must-see excursion during your stay in La Porte d'Autan!
