VILLAGE OF BOOKS AND GRAPHIC ARTS
In the Aude region, nestled between Toulouse and the Mediterranean, at the meeting point of two climates, on the southern slopes of the Montagne Noire, the Cabardès is a transitional zone between east and west.
Just 15 km from the Cité de Carcassonne and 7 km from Saissac, Montolieu, the Village of Books, has existed since 1989, thanks to the initiative of Michel Braibant, bookbinder and founder of the Museum of Arts and Crafts of the Book.
Montolieu boasts some fifteen bookstores and hundreds of thousands of antique and secondhand books for all budgets, for young and old, covering all areas of knowledge and imagination. For book lovers, the world of bibliophilia unfolds in all its forms: first editions, rare editions, limited editions, art bindings, illustrated books, out-of-print works…
Workshops in calligraphy, caricature, writing, illumination, engraving, illustration, papermaking, bookbinding, and typography offer educational introductions for all ages throughout the year.
Located in the heart of Montolieu, the Musée des Arts et Métiers du Livre (Museum of Arts and Crafts of the Book), the Musée Michel Braibant, traces the history of the book, from the birth of writing and the history of its materials to the remarkable adventure of printing.
